My very own ABSOLUTELY no added sugar oatmeal hack!

I'm not the savviest person in the kitchen. For people like me, this recipe is for you.

I love oatmeal, but I never ate it because of the sugar count in the microwave packs; and the only one that didn't have all that sugar was the plain one which was too bland for me. I wanted to find a healthy medium and I'm super happy that I now get to share it with you guys!

Bananas

Yep, that's the hack. Make no mistake, this fruit packs a TON of sweetness when put in the microwave with your oats. Keep in mind that though it's not added sugar, bananas itself contain a lot of natural sugars. So like everything, it's best to eat it in moderation. Other than that, you can kiss those brown sugar packets and honey goodbye because you'll never need it again!

Recipe + Instructions

Note: Everything on the list is not given set quantities except for the banana. It's really up to you to customize the recipe! Some people like their oatmeal with lots of fruit and really soupy, others like it more solid with nuts. Just make sure there's no added sugar and you're good to go!

What you'll need:

- A whole or half banana

- 1 cup of oats or 1 packet of plain oats (I use Quaker)

- Milk, water, or any other liquid of your choice (I use unsweetened almond milk)

- Fruits, nuts, and other toppings of your choice

- Frozen berries (if you prefer)

  1. Take a microwave-safe bowl and mash your banana with a fork. Make sure the consistency is smooth -- like a banana jelly

  2. In the same bowl, thoroughly mix in your oats and liquid. The amount of liquid you want is up to you, but as a general rule, I always put in the amount proportionate to my oats (1 cup of oats, 1 cup of liquid)

  3. Optional step: add in frozen berries and mix well with your oats, mashed banana, and liquid. This will give it a "berry flavor" and (most of the time) a pretty color depending on which ones you use!

  4. Place your mixture in the microwave for 2:30. If you notice that it's too watery, than you might need to put it in for 30 seconds or a minute longer. If by chance this is too hard, then add milk and mix.

  5. Take out of the microwave, add toppings of your choice, and enjoy!
